Graham A.Pavey Garden and Landscape Design
The Design Process
The actual process of designing a garden, if done correctly, can take some time. This page will hopefully help to explain how it works.
All garden design work is carried out by Graham so you can be assured of the highest level of attention. He will work with you to create the garden you want. 'It would not be right for me to experiment in people's gardens, so I work around what is there and only incorporate what I know will work'.
What is Garden Design? Good question. We are very passionate about garden design but feel it has lost its way. There seems to be a lack of understanding, within the industry, of garden design. Graham was trained by some of the leading garden designers of the 20th century and uses techniques designed to make a garden feel comfortable and roomy. Couple this with a desire to ensure the construction is carried out to a high standard, that the new area is practical and easy to look after, and you will have a good idea of what we try to achieve. From redesigning a part of the garden as the result of a new conservatory, or extension, to advising on front garden design to keep paving to a minimum and thereby save money for the client.
The garden design is only the first stage in the process of creating a garden. Construction, obtaining the plants, planting and maintenance are all important elements and we give assistance at every stage. We have other services which can be seen on our Services page.
1. The Initial Site Visit. The garden design process starts with a visit to the garden. No salesman will call. All visits and garden design work are carried out by Graham himself. During this informal visit Graham will give advice on all aspects of horticulture and gardening as well as garden design. Should you want a design, Graham will discuss your requirements (including budget), throw out some ideas and suggestions, and prepare for the garden design stage. ail. This will include a discussion of the implementation stages. It may be that changes are required and these will be carried out prior to the construction stage.
8. Construction. A critical stage. It is essential that the construction is entrusted to an experienced and qualified landscape gardener. We have a number of contractors who we recommend and Graham will ensure that the work they carry out is correct and to the highest standards. At this stage we will ask for estimates and you will choose which contractor you want to carry out the work.
We are delighted with our garden, and receive lots of compliments on it
The design was amazingly good value and we would definately ask Graham to design our next garden- if we can ever bring ourselves to part with this one.
